The Future of Mighty Muggs

It's true that Mighty Muggs have seen some bright days, but is their future even brighter, or soon to fade out like a one hit wonder 80's pop star? We certainly hope not. In a world inspired by vinyl figure collecting, Mighty Muggs are perhaps the
most successful example of bridging mainstream collecting with those tastes of vinyl and urban art inspired figures. A good majority of people scoffed at Hasbro's attempt at this market, but many other people embraced and praised Hasbro's bravery. They brought us great licensed characters in a new, unseen way. We applauded them for it, at the same time recognizing that it may not be everyone's cup of tea. A testament to the Mighty Muggs legacy is that they are easily recognizable from kids to collectors alike.
As Mighty Mugg collectors, we were there to witness the birth of the first waves of Mighty Muggs, and it was an enjoyable ride to say the least. What really put Mighty Muggs into many-a-collection, was Hasbro's dedication to watching the sales figures on Mighty Muggs. They saw the potential  and capitalized on it, bringing us a rapid succession of great franchise lines. Perhaps a little too fast fro our wallets, but awesome nonetheless. Star Wars, Marvel, Transformers, and G.I. Joe anyone?
These days we keep our eyes on the shelves, hoping for a new line. The one bad move that Hasbro made in our opinion, was overproducing stock when it seemed like the iron was hot. The flood of product near the end was too much. Muggs became shelf warmers, instead of a rare and unique thing to come across. The kind of figure that you buy because you think, "Hey, I might never come across this again." A smarter decision would have been to pull back, focus on newer and more creative lines. We're still hoping that they got this message and aren't going to abandon the Mighty Muggs legacy.
So what's next for the Mighty Muggs? No official statement yet, but we're hearing whispers that Hasbro hasn't abandoned the Mighty Muggs line just yet. We hope that this is the case and Mighty Muggs come back better than ever. How many great characters are still out there deserving the Mighty Mugg form? So here's to Hasbro for the hope that they back up, re-dial it up, and bring us many more years of keeping our eyes peeled for unique Mighty Muggs. We are looking forward to it.
